Harvest Moon Central is now accepting fan fiction! Read below to learn more, including submission guidelines.
What is fan fiction?
Fan fiction is a genre of literature that is based off an existing series in video games, movies, books and other media. Fans take the general basis of the series as well as the characters and invent their own situations, conflicts, and more. It is typically in a short story format, with invented dialogue between known characters, and sometimes even made-up characters.
How do I write fan fiction?
As mentioned, fan fiction involves main characters of the series, such as in this case, Jack (or his female counterpart). It is possible to either use situations that have happened and elaborate on them or even change them around, or to create entirely new situations between characters. For example, in a fan fiction the writer could describe a scene between Jack and Jamie, where they argue about who is better than the other. This would include dialogue between the two characters. For example:
- Jack was on his way to Town Square when he noticed Jamie staring at him from her fields. Discouraged by her obvious contempt, he decided to make a stop at her ranch and settle things out.
"Weather's been great for letting the animals out, hasn't it?" he said cheerfully, knowing exactly how she would respond.
"Hmph," Jamie responded, and went back to her work. Jack considered giving up, but he decided he'd give it one more try.
"Jamie, I know you feel our rivalry is necessary, but it would make things a lot easier to beome partners, maybe even share farming tips," he said, wondering if Jamie was even listening.
"I don't need help from you," she muttered.
What can I write about?
Anything Harvest Moon related. Don't feel limited to Magical Melody only - you can write about any Harvest Moon game. While your story doesn't need to be set in Harvest Moon towns, or include only Harvest Moon characters, it does need to have some tie to the game. We will not accept fan fictions focusing on anything besides the game. We will also not accept any fan fictions that have very mature situations, such as extreme sexual content / violence.
